Saracens Announce Schedule to play USA Islanders in Bermuda

SARACENS WILL FACE USA ISLANDERS IN BERMUDA

The Saracens have announced their 2017/18 pre-season fixtures to prepare for their upcoming season where they will compete to become the repeat European Champions. Rowan University Hosting Rugby Clinic on August 5th

Rowan University is hosting their Rugby Skills Clinic on August 5th from 9am to 5pm. The clinic will take place on campus at the Rowan University Intramural Field and is open to all high school athletes.

The clinic gives high school students the opportunity to visit Rowan University's campus as well as work with collegiate rugby players and coaches on rugby skills. At the end of the clinic, participants will be able to learn more about rugby recruiting during a recruiting seminar with Coach Wilson. 

The cost of the Rugby Skills Clinic is $75 per participant.

URugby worked closely with 4x3 Design to create a highly dynamic website to promote invitational matches and upcoming events for the newly formed USA Islanders Rugby team. 

The USA Islanders is a team of potential national caliber rugby players and USA Eagles with island heritage holding a resident status or USA passport featuring players from Tonga, Fiji, Samoa and islands in the Atlantic and Pacific. Former USA Rugby star Vahafolau Esikia has been selected as the Head Coach.

While other varsity teams were traveling to St. Louis for Wrestling or Los Angles for Women's Basketball March Madness, Jacobson said that the Rugby team’s trip was "the best trip of all."

According to President Matthew Caltabiano, the team took full advantage of being in the warm weather. "After our practice on Friday morning we all went to Horseshoe Bay Beach and jumped in the water to cool down," Caltabiano said while reflecting on the team's trip to Bermuda.

ACRC Teams Reach Vegas Cup Quarterfinals, Final Four

Four of the eight teams advancing to the Cup quarterfinals at the Las Vegas Invitational on Friday were ACRC contenders, and two are advancing to the Final Four. 

The elite eight included St. Joseph University and Notre Dame College, who played each other in the Quarterfinal round; AIC, who played Lindenwood; and Kutztown, who played Air Force. Rounding out the bracket were Arizona and Utah. Dec. 8, 2014 - New England College’s Director of Rugby Jeremy Treece notified the National Small College Rugby Association (NSCRO) late last week that its program will make the surprise move to Division 1 next fall. 

Since it began competing in the NSCRO playoff system in the fall of 2012, NEC has found great success winning the 2014 7’s national championship and finishing 2nd in the 15’s, all within a one-month period in the spring of 2014. NEC also finished 3rd in both in 2013.

Casual observers of the college rugby scene might wonder about the program currently sitting at #3 on the Goff Rugby Report D1 college rankings: Life University. What conference are they in? Do they play a fall 15s schedule? Where is Life University, anyway? 

Life University, located in Marietta, Ga. (near Atlanta), specializes in health science education (including sports health science) and chiropractic. The school hosts both club and varsity undergraduate rugby teams. The undergraduate program, founded in 1980 and made a varsity sport in 2010, is led by Dan Payne, a former coach for the USA Eagles national team.

Matt Hampson Runs Coaching Session at Iona College

Matt Hampson of Leicester Tigers and England U-21 and more recently of Matt Hampson Foundation took time out on his birthday vacation in NYC to coach the Iona College pack in scrums and lineout drives.

Though Matt was paralyzed in a scrum, his motto is "Get busy living". He knows that safe scrums are tight, cohesive, and aggressive scrums. He used his expertise to make minor adjustments in the Iona approach that paid major dividends in one session. He also gave fantastic adjustments to players in lineout drives and changing strike points.

Latest ACRC Coaches Poll Oct 21st 2014

The latest ACRC Coaches Poll has Kutztown at the top, with Army moving back past Penn State into #2 after Penn State's loss to KU.

Bowling Green defeated a well-regarded Western Michigan and moved up two places as a result. Indiana edged Michigan and they moved ahead of the Wolverines. Wheeling Jesuit lost to Davenport dropping three slots.

New into the Top 20 are West Virginia, Ohio State, Middlebury (who defeated Boston College), South Carolina, and Virginia Tech. Va Tech and USC are tied at #20.

Fierce Fight for Top Spot in Rugby East

The competition doesn’t get any fiercer than in the Rugby East Conference, where some of the best teams in the nation go head-to-head. Last weekend did not disappoint, with an epic Penn State-Kutztown game that saw the Nittany Lions roar back late in the second half to within 8 points, but fail to catch the Bears.
