In Focus: The Rugby Athletic Center and Charlotte

The ACRC Bowl Series takes place at Charlotte’s Rugby Athletic Center, a state-of-the-art facility located on 13.4 acres just south of downtown. Among the amenities available to Bowl Series players and attendees are a clubhouse, spacious locker rooms, concessions and libations from the Third Half Pub and a VIP level with complementary food & drink and tables overlooking the pitch.

Clemson rugby coach Justin Hickey has called the RAC "arguably the best rugby facility in the Southeast, and one of the elite venues nationwide." Competition kicks off Friday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. with a high school game followed by Iona-Boston College under the lights on one of the RAC's two full-size grass pitches.

The Rugby Athletic Center is located 7.5 miles from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and 3.3 miles from downtown. Ample parking and easy access to the city’s Lynx light rail system (with connections to the shops and restaurants of Charlotte's trendy South End) make the ACRC Bowl Series a great destination for a fantastic weekend of competition and camaraderie.

The Queen City

Fall is the best time to visit the Queen City of Charlotte, N.C., located near the South Carolina line and scenic Lake Norman in the south-central part of the state. Catch the Soul of the South Uptown Food Tour, a Hornets-Orlando Magic game, the Charlotte International Auto Show or craft beers and steampunk at Discovery Place museum, just a few local events going on the same weekend as the ACRC Bowl Series. Charlotte is, of course, the birthplace of stock car racing and no fan's experience is complete without a visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The ACRC Bowl Series

High-level collegiate rugby competition comes to Charlotte, N.C. Nov. 21-22, 2014 with the inaugural American Collegiate Rugby Championship Bowl Series. This series of matches in traditional bowl format brings the very best college rugby teams from around the country to Charlotte’s Rugby Athletic Center, a sports and events venue located just three miles from downtown.
