MAC Conference Playoff Seeds Set This Weekend

The Mid American Conference tournament, which takes place Nov. 8-9, will be a high-stakes affair for the powerhouse squads at the top of this league, known nationwide for being well-stocked with schools committed to excellent club rugby. The tournament winner earns a berth at the ACRC Bowl Series in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 21-22. 

Two teams from the North Division and two from the South Division will meet in Elkhart, Ind. for the MAC playoffs and championship game:

Sat. Nov. 8: Semifinals      

1 pm     South #1 vs North # 2
3 pm    North # 1 vs South # 2

Sun. Nov. 9: Finals    

11 am   Sat. losers for 3rd & 4th
1 pm    Sat. winners for 1st & 2nd

In the MAC North Division, Bowling Green State University has clinched a spot in the tournament with a 4-0 record. At 3-2, Central Michigan and Western Michigan are currently tied for second place. The two teams meet this Saturday to determine which will earn a second seed from the North. 

In the MAC South Division, Miami of Ohio and Dayton, both at 5-0, are in the tournament but locked in a battle for first seed. Dayton hosts Miami this weekend for the rubber match. 

Whichever team is left standing on Nov. 9 will meet a champ from another conference at the Bowl Series.

Central Michigan and Western Michigan, tied for second in the MAC North, meet to decide the #2 divisional seed to the conference tournament.

About the ACRC Bowl Series

High-level collegiate rugby competition comes to Charlotte, N.C. Nov. 21-22, 2014 with the inaugural American Collegiate Rugby Championship Bowl Series. This series of matches in traditional bowl format brings the very best college rugby teams from around the country to Charlotte’s Rugby Athletic Center, a sports and events venue located just three miles from downtown.

The ACRC Bowl Series will feature eight championship bowl games over two days. The champions and runner-ups have been selected to compete from the Atlantic Coast Rugby Conference, the East Coast Rugby Conference, the Empire Rugby Conference, the Keystone Rugby Conference, the Mid American Rugby Conference, the Rugby East Conference, the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference, and the Southwest Collegiate Rugby Conference.

The tournament is managed by URugby, a division of Sevens Sports LLC, a sports event management and marketing company specializing in creating great experiences around the sport of rugby.

Competition gets underway under the lights Friday evening Nov. 21, and heats up Saturday as the best college teams in the nation take to the pitch to compete for hardware and glory.
