The LSU Rugby Football Club was born in the early 1970’s by members of the LSU community interested in developing a club among the student population. Among the fathers of the club, history records Rob Haswell, a visiting Geology instructor from South Africa, and Jay McKenna as being the initiators of the program on campus. The club grew quickly and soon had enough members to field multiple sides.

April 2014 saw The Tigers SCRC West Division Champs, completing their first undefeated season in 5 years to claim the #1 seed in the West Division. In the SCRC finals, LSU fell 26-41 to South Carolina.

LSU was defeated later that month by defending National Champs University of Central Florida in the Men's College DI-AA Southeast Regional at University of Tennessee.

The Tigers play at the LSU Sport & Adventure Complex. The Head Coach/Forwards Coach is Bob Causey.
