Boathouse Sports Launches New Helium Weathergear

Philadelphia, PA, April 21, 2015 – Boathouse Sports, the official supplier of apparel and outerwear to the U.S. National Rowing team since 2009, today debuted its Made-In-America line of Helium Weathergear. Boathouse will offer three jackets in the Helium collection; the True North Hooded Rain Shell (team price $119), Rio-Light Rowing Shell (team price $89), the Intrepid Training Jacket (team price $99) as well as the Cloud Burst pants (team price $69).

Boathouse’s Helium fabric is lightweight, waterproof, breathable and is engineered with 4-way stretch for comfort. All of the Helium Jackets critical seams are thermally taped to prevent water penetration. Helium jackets are 40 percent lighter than traditional rainwear and are also easily packable for quick and convenient stowage.

Prior to the launch, all of the Helium garments were field tested by the US National Rowing Team. The Helium jackets quickly became the teams “go-to” piece for the athletes said Liz Souter, National Team Manager. “The athletes raved about the weight,” said Ms. Souter, many said that they “forgot that they were even wearing a jacket.”

“Our goal was to develop a product that kept athletes dry and comfortable with a minimal amount of weight,” said Doug Tibbetts, President of Boathouse Sports. “Gore-Tex is still our flagship product–but Helium fits a nice niche from a weight and a price point perspective.”
