West Chester Wins High School Boys Division in Bermuda


The West Chester High School Boys dominated in their division finishing with a perfect record of 6-0 on route to the 2017 Ariel Re Bermuda 7s High School Boys Championship.

The West Chester High School Boys are no strangers to Bermuda, especially considering this was their second Ariel Re Bermuda 7s appearance. And, besides being able to compete, Coach Lou Raymond commented that the Bermuda 7s were more than just a tournament to the team. 

"The boys enjoyed the atmosphere and exposure to the Bermuda community," Coach Raymond remarked when asked about the overall experience in Bermuda. He also mentioned how the players took notice to the "1st Class Fields" and the professionalism of the other college teams. Coach Raymond later added, "All in all the experience was a 10. This was my 2nd trip and would look forward to number 3."

West Chester started their Ariel Re Bermuda 7s trip with a 50-0 Victory over Beyond Rugby U16, followed by a 38-7 victory over Bermuda Rugby U18. They finished their first day with a 35-7 victory over the Ariel Re All Stars.

The team kept their strength and determination on the field the very next day with a 29-0 victory over Warwick Academy. The rematch with Beyond Rugby U18 resulted in a 47-0 victory to put them in the High School Cup Final against Ariel Re All Stars.

West Chester brought home the Cup Final in similar fashion with a 50-0 victory.

Beyond Rugby U18s and U16s

The Beyond Rugby U18s and U16s took the field at the Bermuda National Stadium looking to make a statement on the island and internationally. Beyond Rugby Bermuda works with kids at two schools in Bermuda, Cedarbridge Academy & Dellwood Middle School using core values of rugby help develop young people.

Bermuda high school rugby will be well represented at the 2017 Ariel Re Bermuda 7s, as Bermuda Rugby fields three elite squads including the Ariel Re All Stars, Beyond Rugby U18s and Beyond Rugby U16s.

Ariel Re All Stars

Ariel Re All Stars, Bermuda is a skilled rugby squad with players from Cedarbridge AcademyBerkeley InstituteSaltus Grammer School and Warwick Academy. Bermuda high school rugby were well represented at the 2017 Ariel Re Bermuda 7s, and they were given the chance to compete against other HS teams from the United States. The Ariel Re All Stars played they're way to the finals before finally being defeated by West Chester High School.

Ariel Re sponsors the high school league featuring exiting matches between the local schools played at the Bermuda National Sports Centre.

Warwick Academy

Warwick Academy is a skilled rugby squad from Bermuda that joined this year's Ariel Re Bermuda 7s. With some players also playing for the sponsor team, Ariel Re All Stars (HSB), the Academy also put forth an elite squad to play the other Bermuda teams and those visiting from the United States. 

Beyond Rugby Bermuda

Beyond Rugby is a collaboration between the Bermuda Rugby Football Union and Family Centre of Bermuda. The program helps young people develop character and succeed in school while having fun and staying fit. The group offers a full rugby program, a meal, and transportation home after practice, along with personal social support and case management for youth. Beyond Rugby achieves great results due to the partnership and resources that support young people. The Family Centre organizes support for young people and families. The Bermuda Rugby Football Union organizes the training and games.
