Local favorites The Hampton Heat demonstrated superior speed and ball handling in a 33-15 Fork victory over Bentley University at the ACRC7s on April 26.
The Heat jumped out quickly with a breakaway run down the left side of the field for an unconverted try. Bentley answered back, overcoming several tie-ups and shaking off heavy traffic to score a try, also unconverted.
With two more breakaways, The Heat notched two tries and conversions, but it would be Bentley’s turn again before the half with a sprint down the opposite end to make it 19-10 Heat going into the break.
The second frame saw Bentley snatch possession in the Heat’s try zone and quickly take the ball halfway to their own goal before the Heat grabbed it back and just as quickly retraced their steps to score and convert.
Another try and conversion sealed the victory for The Heat, but, unbowed, Bentley battled downfield for a final unconverted try, making the final 33-15.
