Thrilling Finish to Great Weekend of Rugby at ACRC7s-Virginia Beach

In a thrilling finish to URugby-Virginia Beach featuring the ACRC7s, the U.S. Naval Academy scored at the end of regulation to pull out a victory over reigning ACRC7 champs Kutztown. The 17-14 result capped two days of amazing rugby as top teams from around the country battled it out at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

With the win, the Midshipmen halted Kutztown's seemingly unstoppable momentum after the Golden Bears won big over Rugby East rival Penn State in the semis 26-7. Navy eked by Delaware 21-19 to reach the Cup match, but the speed and battle-tested defensive muscle of Navy, including the efforts of Goff tournament MVP scrumhalf Gardy Lebon, won the day.

Earlier on Sunday, Penn State held off a resurgent Delaware 19-14 to capture third after the Blue Hens upset James Madison in the quarterfinals. JMU would go on to win the Plate with a 24-15 victory over St. Joes.

In the Shield final, Kutztown II dominated Old Dominion 45-5. Heat Elite took care of Lehigh in similar fashion, defeating the Mountain Hawks 34-0 for the Bowl. ODU had won over crosstown rival Heat Elite 27-22 to reach the Shield match.
