Penn State’s tradition of excellence includes 10 national semifinal appearances in the last 25 years, a fourth place finish at the 2014 ACRC Sevens in Virginia Beach and a quarterfinal appearance in the 2011 CRCs in Philadelphia.

After falling to archival Army 19-15 in the 2014 fall conference opener, the Nittany Lions defeated St. Bonaventure and Buffalo leading up to a big game against Kutztown, which resulted in a tough 36-28 defeat. Penn State advanced to the semis at the 2015 CRCs with a dramatic victory over St. Joes at PPL Park. A very successful Fall 2015 campaign wrapped up with a 24-15 victory over Kutztown on Nov. 7 to a secure a tie for first in the Rugby East Conference.

The Penn State Rugby program is classified by the University as a team sport rather than a Club Sport, giving it near-varsity status in the Athletic Department with paid coaches and trainers. Joining the program in 2014 was new men's coach by Alf Daniels, who most recently helmed the Waikato U20 Development Team in New Zealand.
