Top 10 Bermudian Activities for Athletes

While Bermuda is well-known for being the place for a relaxing vacation, it has plenty of activities for adventurers and athletes. Here are our top 10 favorites to try while on the island!

1. Climb Clarence Cove's Cliff

For any rock climbing enthusiasts, Clarence Cove's cliff is a popular attraction on the beautiful seaside. Try your skills above the water by climbing the limestone cliffs that lead to tunnels built by the British military in the 1850s. Set in Admiralty House Park, you can also explore the ruined mansion that used to exist on the land or simply walk along the beach.

2. Hike the Railway Trail

Hike along Bermuda's historical Railway Trail! This 18 mile walkway winds around the entire island, providing an unparalleled opportunity for you to take in the island's breathtaking ocean views and forest foliage.

3. Swim and Snorkel under Tobacco Bay Beach

Visitors are welcome to try snorkeling to get a closer look at what's under the sea at Tobacco Bay Beach! You'll be amazed at the colorful tropical fish that pass by and glittery seashells you can collect.

4. Join a Gombey Dance

Bermuda's famous Gombey dance troupes groove their way down Front Street to the infectious sound of goatskin drums, beer-bottle fifes and tin whistles. Decked out in colorful costumes and headdresses, dancers reflect the plumage of tropical birds. The Gombeys combine West African, Bermudian and British traditions into a fascinating and spirited dance. Spontaneously join in to the celebration or take a class while in Bermuda!

5. Spend an Afternoon Golfing

Golf your afternoon away at Tucker's Point, the Port Royal, Belmont Hills, Turtle Hill or Ocean View golf courses. Bermuda boasts the most golf greens per capita than any other island destination, making the island a golfer's dream!

6. Walk Around Crystal Caves

If you're craving a break from the beach, walk around the Crystal Caves. Visit the two popular caverns, the Crystal and Fantasy Caves, for a view of soaring stalagmites and natural limestone formations.

7. Enjoy Yoga on the Beach

Practice yoga with a serene ocean view on one of Bermuda's more secluded beaches, like Hog Bay Beach or Somerset Long Bay Beach. You can even try catching the sunrise while doing your sun salutations!

8. Climb to the Top of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse

Climb to the top of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse for a surreal birds-eye view of the island, and an accompanying dose of local history. On the way up, you'll climb 185 steps or eight flights of stairs!

9. Join a Sailing Class

As the host of The America's Cup, Bermuda is no stranger to sailing. Take a note from the experts and join a sailing class to explore the surrounding water at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.
