US Naval Academy

Founded in 1963, the United States Naval Academy rugby club is a member of Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union. USNA has consistently been among the top rugby clubs in the nation since the inception of the collegiate championship in 1980.

Navy has put on a good showing this spring (2016) despite injuries, including a Varsity Cup round of 16 win against Notre Dame and going 3-0 on a quick England tour in March. The Midshipmen lost a hard-fought 22-27 match with Army and fell to Arkansas State 24-32 in the Varsity Cup quarterfinals. "A couple key injuries (missing our National POY candidate Nick Marmureanu) and plays kept us from having a really special 15's campaign," Navy Rugby President Woody Dewing said.

USNA Rugby qualified for the National Championship in 2004 and 2005. Last fall, they defeated Air Force to capture the Shea Cup and scored wins over Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Maryland and top-ranked Notre Dame College, among others. Navy reached the Varsity Cup quarterfinals in the spring of 2016.
